On July 1, 2008 the Oregon Chapter of the American Jewish Committee became the Oregon Area Jewish Committee (OAJC), an independent affiliate of the American Jewish Committee. OAJC is a non-profit corporation qualified for charitable status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
We continue to do the important work that the AJC Oregon Chapter did for over 28 years in our community, including: ● Protecting the civil and religious rights, security and dignity of Jews in Oregon, Southwest Washington, the United States of America, and throughout the world. ● Advancing efforts to protect human rights and uman dignity in Oregon, Southwest Washington, the United States of America, and throughout the world. ● Combating anti-Semitism, bigotry and discriminationbigotry and discrimination and elping to develop mutual understanding among America’s diverse religious, racial and ethnic groups. ● Reducing intergroup tensions and strengthening pluralism. ● Promoting Jewish values in discussions of public policy, including, but not limited to, access to healthcare, quality education, responsibility to elders, elimination of poverty, and environmental conservation. ● Enriching the quality of Jewish life by strengthening Jewish identity, increasing understanding of our history and heritage, and working with Jewish communal institutions so that they are responsive to changing Jewish needs.
